Arena, WI man wins $35,000 settlement for three-year court battle over FB comment.

ARENA, WI – Thomas G. Smith was awarded a $35,000 settlement after fighting criminal charges stemming from a profanity-laced Facebook comment.  Smith was subjected to a day of pretrial detention plus a ban on using a computer or cell phone for any purpose other than for work.  Smith was sentenced to a year of probation and 25 hours of community service, but the sentence and conviction were overturned on appeal. Smith was represented at trial by attorney Tom Aquino.
