MARIETTA, GA: Last night’s storm was intense! Here’s my report on what happened, including some photos of the damage I took:
The roll clouds were green, dark gray, black in some areas, and the lighting had an odd green/yellow coloring. At about 7:50 pm, the tornado sirens closest to my house went off. I walked out onto the front porch to check the weather, and noticed that the immediate area was eerily calm. Suddenly a anap-quick wind gust started violently whipping and shaking the tree in the front yard.
I yelled out, “That tree is going to break! Get out of there!” to another person standing under the tree and – right after that – I heard a loud cracking noise and watched as a large tree limb fell off the tree. That limb was twisting in the wind right before it fell.
The wind continued to shake the trees and then stopped. After the initial gusts, not a single sound could be heard. No animals, no nothing. My driveway was a raging river as the floods from the rains drained off of Austell Rd and down my driveway.
The lighting outside was a neon yellow-green color that turned a deep bright orange within half an hour. Here are some of the pictures from the damage, and two of the tree photos show what looks like a twisting breakage:
