Replacing a car title was SO EASY at the South Cobb Drive tag office location. All I needed was my GA driver’s license, a copy of the tax receipt for the car, and $8 cash.
It literally took me five minutes at the service desk to replace my lost car title.
Here’s the GA Department of Revenue page on how to replace a lost title.
Here’s a link to the LIEN RELEASE FORM that the Dept of Revenue uses.
Here’s a link to the TITLE REPLACEMENT FORM in case you need it.
1. If you have paid off a lien and lost the title, ask the lien holder for a letter and a lien release form. It cannot be a copy – it has to have original signatures.
2. If the title was lost in the mail after a sale, then you should bring in as much confirmation documentation such as the bill of sale and receipt if the seller gave you a receipt. Bring in the VIN number and/or license plate number.
You should always call the tag office hotline if you’re unsure and they will tell you if you need to bring in any need additional documentation.
